Color My Wedding Pretty!

Spring is in the air! Birds are chirping, sun is showing its face more and more, breeze promises the warmth of approaching summer and tanning salons are overcrowded. Nature is waking up with the first shy buds and blooms. Soon enough the flood of color will overwhelm the parks, squares and neighborhoods. You have to admit, color brings ‘HAPPY’ into everyday routine of our lives! But why stop there?

Color trends for weddings are continually changing. Of course, most of us still live with a childhood dream of white wedding and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! Subtle and elegant classicism of white is perpetual! However, conservative stoicism has its drawbacks and one of them is ‘been there-seen that-done that’. So, what a girl to do? That’s where we should turn to what Mother Nature bestowed upon us to be inspired with – color.

Each spring designers preview what color or colors will be the hot trend for the year. From classic whites to jewel tones, from pastels to neons, going to extremes is the thing for spring. Make your choice, then make a statement.

Black and White

Black became repeated color for wedding gowns on runway. Thus, we turn towards old Hollywood glamour and the monochromatic black and white wedding combination. Bold, yet sophisticated, this theme is fairly simple to plan. Black and white invitations, place cards, favor boxes etc. are making their comeback. You will definitely score some kudos with your bridesmaids by letting them wear those classic Little Black Dresses every woman craves. Note, that they don’t necessarily have to be identical as long as they carry the same style. Sex up your style with the old Hollywood classic – high shine red gloss. Keep the rest of you face clean and soft save for mascara and cheeks, flushed with pastel baby pink. For even more of angel-dusted effect, prep the face with two parts of light-reflecting lotion and one part foundation

Metallic

The bride who opts for metallic trend is sure to stand out and be remembered. There are lots of ways to incorporate this sparkly and dynamic scheme into your wedding. From bouquets of white roses mixed with eucalyptus, Artemisia Silver King and/or Dusty Miller to bridesmaids’ dresses, decorate with sparkling confetti accents and chose silver or gold tone accessories. Punch up your own look with silver heels peeking out from under your dress, and a rhinestone hairpin. Go for luminescent make up. Sultry eyes needn’t always be dark and smudgy – try platinum eye shadows with black pencil and brush on black mascara to bring the celestial look down to earth. Gold has irresistible sunny quality, plus it looks good on everyone. Customarily flaunted around the neck or ring finger, gold can also be worn on lips, just opt for sheer lipstick or gloss rather then than anything opaque or glittered.

Orange/Yellow

Yellows and Oranges look fabulous together; they complement each other nicely, and make an impact when used collectively. To keep these gutsy shades sophisticated, combine creamy peaches and bright citrus hues to darker tangerines and burnt sienna – colors in the orange family – to compliment yellow, or opt for silver and platinum undertones.

Orange is a very trendy wedding color. Be sure to understand though that this is not glaring orange, but rather, one that suggests opulence and often has a bronze undertone. This orange can be paired with red or cream for beautiful results.

Yellow is fresh, energetic, and summery. For a day-time wedding, consider yellow and white with gingham accents, and cheery yellow ribbons, while for an evening wedding, pair lemon yellow with chocolate brown. Or, choose a brighter yellow paired with silvery gray. Pale yellows are great for spring weddings, lemon yellows give a citrus punch to summer weddings and deep mustards are beautiful for fall and winter weddings.

Chocolate Brown

Chocolate brown has been and will continue to be popular this year. It’s modern and elegant, yet bold and alluring. To go with a monochromatic theme select taupe, gold and brown, with sheer cream overlay to reinforce an elegant feeling of traditional color scheme. Chocolate brown is also pairs nicely with both yellow and orange. For bolder and more distinctive look – pair it with colors such as blue, pink or sometimes, though rarely, a celadon green. Looking to make a statement? Go for silver instead or coordinate with pale yellow or lilac. Spice up your décor with brown favor boxes and accessories.  For you personal look – pick coral blush that can brighten without overwhelming when the shade is more peach then red. Radiant pastels give the face a softness that’s very pretty.

Jewel Tones

Rich purples, emerald green, shocking pink, neon blues, and royal red are back with a bang. Opulence is not just a trend but a statement of class and elegance. Be cautious, though, of the thin red line between glamorous sophistication of jewel tones and  painful memories of acid-washed denim ’80s. Today’s couples should look to use jewel tones sparingly, mixing bights with cream or gray, or more muted versions of the same color. Look for chiffon and matte jewel tone fabrics for décor and satin finish accessories to carry off the look. Enhance your look with vibrant cobalt liner swept with matte sapphire powder or romantic shades of violet that compliments any eye color.

A whimsical world of color awaits! Touched by dewy moisture, shimmering brighter than imagination and defying the rules. Colors drawn from nature are timeless and always fashionable. No matter what color palette you pick, be playful with it. Mix and match till you find the combination that you are the most comfortable with.
